The Young Scholars Network (YSN) organized a panel session at Etmaal 2019 on Open Science. We invited dr. Nynke van der Laan who is an expert on the topic to tell us more about the principles of open science, how we can apply them to our research and what the advantages and disadvantages of doing so are. Nynke started her talk with examples of bad research practices and continued by giving us advice how to do good science and join the open science movement. Her main recommendations were to first, pre-register your hypotheses and methodology. Second, she underlined the importance of correct statistical procedures. Lastly, we learned about the value of replicating key studies that we build upon.

It was a very interesting talk that sparked interest of young scholars in the session and led to a lively discussion. We hope to apply Nynke’s advice in our current and future research!
