We would like to invite you to the Mis-and Disinformation Symposium, themed Building Resilience to Misinformation on March 11, 2025 at the Roeterseiland Campus at the University on Amsterdam.
People across the globe are extremely concerned about the prevalence and impact of misinformation. The World Economic Forum even declared AI-powered misinformation as the world’s largest short-term societal risk this year. Yet, we currently lack a clear empirical understanding of the scope of the issues related to misinformation. At the same time, research on the effectiveness of interventions aimed to enhance resilience to misinformation has arrived at inconclusive or even conflicting conclusions. Even more so, evidence is often gathered in controlled lab settings, whereas we lack an understanding of the real-world impact of interventions and the feasibility of their implementation.
In this setting, this symposium aims to offer insights into the state-of-the-art of misinformation research across disciplines, whilst connecting with stakeholders from policy and practice to better understand the nature of the threats we face today. With keynote addresses by Prof. dr. Jessica Piotrowski and Prof. dr. Claes de Vreese, the event will feature panels with researchers, as well as a session integrating academic knowledge with practical insights from relevant stakeholders and experts. Together, we aim to offer guidelines and indicators of how we can strengthen resilience to misinformation across different domains and audience segments.
Registration for the symposium can be done using this link. We will be hosting a full-day symposium, beginning at 9:00h with coffee and ending around 17:00h. Registration includes free coffee, a catered lunch, and drinks afterward. If you are interested in attending, please register, and indicate your dietary preferences as well. We hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
Christian, Hande, Michael, Toni, Ava, & Marijn
