Etmaal 2025 Preconference Health Communication: ‘Meet your mentor’

Date/Time
Date(s) - 03/02/2025
9:00 am - 11:30 am

Description:
Health communication plays a crucial role in shaping health behaviors, decision-making, and public health outcomes. In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, research in areas such as ecological momentary assessments (EMA), biophysical measurements, mHealth, and AI is becoming increasingly significant. To explore these emerging trends, we are excited to invite you to a special mentor-mentee session organized by the Division of Health Communication.
This session aims to foster meaningful interactions between early-career researchers and more senior scholars. Together, we’ll create a space for discussing cutting-edge health communication research, while also addressing challenges in academia (e.g., work-life balance). This event offers a valuable opportunity for young scholars to gain insights from experienced researchers, share experiences, and build connections within the health communication community.

Session outline:

  • Research Presentations:

Each young scholar will briefly present an overview of their current research or project. This will provide a chance to learn about ongoing work in the field and enable scholars to connect based on shared interests.

  • Mentor-Mentee Meeting:

After the presentations, each young scholar will be paired with a senior scholar. This one-on-one time is an opportunity to discuss research challenges, exchange ideas, and explore strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Since walking helps you think, we encourage you to turn the meeting into a walk in the neighboring area!

  • Group Networking:

The session will conclude with an open networking period, where all participants can connect, share ideas, and explore opportunities for future collaborations.
Participation and preparation:

To ensure the best mentor-mentee match based on shared research interests, participants are asked to fill out a brief questionnaire during their registration (https://forms.gle/8G1yyn3gEpgpaRTH6). This will help us tailor the session and mentor-mentee pairings accordingly.

Additionally, we ask each PhD student to prepare a short, informal presentation about their current research or project (a few slides as visual support is allowed, but not required). This will allow fellow participants to gain insight into the diverse work being conducted in the health communication field. Don’t worry—this will be a relaxed opportunity to get to know each other’s research.

This pre-conference session offers a unique platform to connect with leading experts, gain feedback on your research, and receive practical advice on navigating academic challenges while maintaining personal well-being. Don’t miss this opportunity to enrich your research and expand your professional network in the field of health communication. We look forward to seeing you there!
