Communicating Climate Hope is a two-day distributed/hybrid conference, co-hosted and co-located at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada and Tilburg University (TiU) in the Netherlands, to be held August 15-16, 2024. The conference will bring together a diversity of experts in climate communication, aiming to understand ways in which people think and talk about human-induced climate change, and to develop ways to promote beneficial framings and narratives that can contribute to positive, collective change. The call for submissions focuses on academics working on climate hope; artists who produce art in this direction; and community-oriented activists seeking to foster climate hope in the public sphere. We aim to organize sessions where perspectives meet, to learn from each other, and to find out how academia, art, and activism can strengthen each other.
The Tilburg hub will have a combination of plenary talks by invited speakers; regular presentations (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion); academic poster presentations combined with non-academic exhibitions; and workshops given by professional climate artists.
