Etmaal 2021 – Organizational Communication

Below are the sessions and presentations for the online Etmaal 2021.

Thursday 09:00 – 11:00
Strategic communication

First, we take the opportunity of this digital conference to invite an international keynote speaker to our division to talk about strategic communication. Ansgar Zerfass is a professor and chair of strategic communication at Leipzig University. He is the editor of the International Journal of Strategic Communication, the lead researcher on the Global Communication Monitor series and vice chair of the PR Division of the International Communication Association. During a 30 minute presentation, he will discuss research in strategic communication. Strategic communication encompasses all communication that is substantial for the survival and success of an organization. He will take a critical look at the current state of the field and provide some food for thought. We then leave room for questions and discussion.

After a short break, we will leave the floor to our PhD-students who will discuss their research on crisis communication, organizational identification and social media. Each of them will get 15 minutes to discuss the research live, supported by a PowerPoint presentation. After each presentation, there will be 5 minutes for questions and discussion:

Gijs Fannes, An-Sofie Claeys Expressing empathy in times of crisis: The role of authentic language use.
Phuong Hoan Le, Vidhi Chaudhri, Yijing Wang, Susanne Janssen Revisiting antecedents of organizational identification: How gig workers connect with the organization.
Achmad Sulfikar, Peter Kerkhof, Martin Tanis How Indonesian religious fundamentalist organizations use Twitter: Sharing information, building communities, or calling for action?
