MIOS (FSW, UAntwerp) and NeFCA Persuasive Communication invite you to:
“GenAI for Social Science Research Workshop” by dr. Shubin Yu (BI Norwegian Business School)
Date: Friday, May 16th, 2025, 9am-4pm.
Location: University of Antwerp, City Campus, Room S.K.203.
About the Instructor
Shubin Yu, Ph.D. (Ghent University) is an associate professor at BI Norwegian Business School. His research interests include Generative AI for business and human-technology interaction. His works have been published in journals such as Journal of Consumer Psychology, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Business Research, and International Journal of Electronic Commerce.
This workshop addresses the growing integration of AI tools in academic workflows and provides practical guidance for researchers at all career stages.
Workshop Focus
This intensive program will examine how large language models and generative technologies can enhance research practices while maintaining scholarly rigor. Participants will explore both theoretical frameworks and practical applications through structured sessions and hands-on exercises.
Key Topics
- Foundations of GenAI in research contexts: Understanding capabilities, limitations, and appropriate use cases
- Literature review automation: Systematic approaches to processing scholarly materials
- Research workflow optimization: Identifying opportunities for effective AI integration
- Stimuli generation and interview protocols: Creating and refining research materials
- Knowledge base implementation: Building retrieval-augmented generation systems for research
- Text analytics and visualization: Practical applications in qualitative and quantitative analysis
Featured Tools
The workshop will provide tutorials on selected generative AI tools recommended by the GenAI for Research Initiative, including SciSpace, Consensus, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and MimiTalk. Additionally, the workshop will introduce techniques for building customized knowledge bases and research agents.
Policy Considerations
Participants will gain insights from recent studies on generative AI policies in education and research, with particular focus on practices among the top 100 universities globally. This section addresses important considerations for ethically implementing AI in academic contexts.
Registration is mandatory (30 participants max, first come, first served basis):
