The Educational Network promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences relevant to teaching communication science and media studies at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, Research Master’s, and postgraduate levels.
For the upcoming Etmaal ‘25, we invite two types of submissions:
- Paper presentations addressing topics such as innovative teaching methods, successes and challenges in communication science education, or the intersection between academic education and the professional world. Contributions may include theoretical reflections, case studies, best-practice presentations, or empirical research on these themes. Colleagues from the Netherlands currently working on SKO/BKO projects (University Teaching Qualification) are also warmly encouraged to submit. Submissions should not exceed 600 words, shorter entries are also welcome. Proposals can be submitted via the conference presentation proposal site https://etmaal2025.org/abstracts/
- Roundtable discussion on practices of dealing with AI in student assignments. This year, the Educational Network is inviting submissions for brief, practice-based presentations for a roundtable discussion on encountered challenges as well as opportunities of AI in our education. The goal of the roundtable is to foster dialogue and peer learning around educational developments in media studies and communication sciences. The session will feature several short contributions from colleagues who will share both successful and less successful practices related to AI and lecturing. Each presenter will have 5 minutes to give a concise presentation, followed by a discussion involving both the presenters and the audience on the impact of AI on education. Submissions consist of a brief case description outlining how AI affects your education (maximum 250 words). Please send your proposal to take part in the roundtable session via email to m.a.tanis@vu.nl, and clearly indicate in the pitch that this submission is for the Educational Network Roundtable. The deadline for proposals for this roundtable is November 15.
